Connecting to Literature: Colors Part Two The Little Blue Truck
I am so excited to share my second post about connecting color exploration with great children's literature! For BLUE day at preschool I put out another Invitation to Play using items inspired by The Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle.
The Book
This is a great book about a BLUE truck, but also about friendship :) It is pretty cute.
To Make:
Find some tubs. I got the two for this Invitation to Play at The Dollar Tree. I liked that they were bright colors for color week. And they had a nice spot in the middle to put all the animals and trucks.
I put some sand in there, because we have a ton of sand in our outdoor sand-boxes. I thought about using dirt or grass...but the sand worked great because they could make everything stand up in it pretty easily.
I dug through our animal bin at preschool and found animals for all the characters in the book.
We had a dump truck, but I couldn't find, for the life of me, a Little Blue Truck like the one in the book! If you have seen one...I'd love to know where. But, we used a light blue truck from Cars, the movie.
Let them PLAY! My kids re-told the story, which was cute, with great sound effects! They had fun setting up scenes, and playing with the animals and cars. One of my little gals said, "This is sooooooo much fun! I love it". I am guessing they will use it all week :)
Great series so far, Jeanine! I love how you are pairing your invitations with books. What a great way to get little ones excited about books and reading. Pinning these posts to my Early Literacy board on Pinterest.
