My preschoolers are really enjoying Shape Week, and all of our fun shape activities. At the end of the week I'll share a (very short) post with some pictures of the various shape games/activities I have purchased that my kids really like using for Center Time and Choice Time. All of them are available at a variety of stores!
But, first, an engaging activity you can try at school or home with supplies you probably have: construction paper, eyeballs, and glue!

Make Shape Creatures!
We read Color Farm and loved it. We have a variety of shape pieces out at our Felt Board this week to go with the book, which is awesome...but, I thought it might be fun to make something the kids could take home. So I gave the kids a TON of paper shapes that I cut out of construction paper, a bowl of googly eyes, and some glue. Most of them made shape animals or shape people....and it was the cutest thing ever :) Very creative, very simple and quick, and not only were we getting some art time-we also worked on our shapes some more in a new way!
Get Set For School's Four Squares More Squares
If you don't know Get Set For School, you should check it out. As an elementary school teacher I used Handwriting Without Tears, and GSFS is part of that. I LOVE it. I use it as I want, throughout the year, and don't feel pressured to follow the curriculum day by day. I always have their amazing tools out on my shelves, and pick and choose which learning activities to use with my kiddos. But, it is such a wonderful, hands-on, and researched based preschool curriculum. I am so happy I purchased it.
4 Squares More Squares is awesome, and perfect for Shape Week. We have had them out for exploring and playing all year, but today we learned how to use them as a whole group. There are a variety of larger pieces that have "4 squares" put together, and then a bunch of single "more square" to use to finish the board. We got to use a bunch of squares to make rectangles today :)
Get Set For School's Foam Shapes
You may also be interested in GSFS's Foam Shapes. My kids have had a lot of fun using those in a variety of ways during our Shape Study. And I did teach one of GSFS's mini lessons using the Foam Shapes.
We kept the Foam Shapes out for Center Time too and the kids had a great time building shape pictures!
**As a side note about GSFS-they also have a great Shape song on their CD!
